Traveling the world with the Chieftains, for whom she has played since 2003, Triona has fast become one of Irelands foremost harpist

Tríona comes from Portlaoise, Ireland. She started to play the harp at the age seven and initially trained as a classical Harpist. Her studies culminated in the post of principal harpist with the RTE Concert Orchestra which she held for five years. In 2003 she was invited to play as guest harpist for the Chieftains. Since then she has performed solely on the Irish Harp playing with the Chieftains on tours throughout the world including numerous tours of the States, Japan and Australia and many visits to Europe. As a solo performer Triona has given recitals at the BEO Festival in Dublin, at the 9th World Harp Congress, The Edinburgh International Harp festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She was also invited to join Shaun Davey to perform the music for the Special Olympics Opening Ceremony held in Croke Park, Dublin.

As a performer with the Chieftains, Triona has worked with some of the top artists from around the world. Ry Cooder, Carlos Nunez, Moya Brennan, James Galway to name but a few. Triona has recorded with the Chieftains on numerous Albums the most recent being the San Patrico album which was released in March of 2010. She also worked on the film score ‘The Water Horse’ with the Chieftains and has recorded a number of works with Carlos Nunez.


In 2006 Triona started working with fellow Chieftain alum Jon Pilatzke, Cara Butler, and Nathan Pilatzke. They formed a band called Tread. They have performed extensively throughout Ireland. In 2008 they toured Japan with Anuna as well as performing in Italy and Canada. They also took part in the 2009 Blas Festival in Scotland.

In October of 2010 Triona will travel to Asunsion in Paraguay to perform under Maestro Luis Szaran with the Asunsion Symphony Orchestra as part of the Festival Mundial del Arpa.
